As a child I traveled and experienced a lot. I am grateful for these experiences because I’m a strongly visual person who remembers rich details....shapes in the dried wisteria branches, the particular blue of a New Mexico summer sky, fun patterns.....and incorporates these into my creative process, whether they be paintings or interior design.

I particularly like the challenge of painting the figure. An instructor of mine once said, “Due to our emotional connection with it, and complexity of sub-structure, the human figure is the most difficult to capture.” My nature has always been to choose the difficult, most challenging, route, so this statement was all I needed to interest me. I like the sensuous nature of the figure – human and feline.

Controlling the viewer’s eye (in a room or on a page) through the use of composition, negative space, color, value, clarity, is top of mind while I work. I want the viewer to feel a sense of connection to the art; connected to humanity, the whimsy, and the energy.

But all this said....mostly it’s about having fun!
